Panellist
After having practised investment banking for 18 years over different locations – Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and East Malaysia – Jacqueline made a career shift and focused on entrepreneurship in her home state of Sarawak.
In 2012, Jackie and her former school-mate, Dr June Ngo started Tanoti Sdn Bhd, an award-winning social enterprise to preserve heritage craft, empower women and build rural communities. Tanoti’s weaving community is currently made up of 22 Sarawakian ladies working to ensure the preservation of the craft of songket weaving. In addition, Tanoti has developed a community initiative to develop the craft of the Penan communities, currently covering 23 remote Penan villages. Tanoti is winner of World Craft Council Award of Excellence for Handicraft 2014 and 2016, recipient of MaGIC Amplify Award 2015 and British Council-Arthur Guinness Entrepreneur for Good People’s Choice Award 2014.
Jackie is an avid trekker and considers herself a tourist in own home. She has explored many trails around Kuching, including waterfalls, summits and villages. She believes that the outdoor adventure community worldwide is growing larger by the day, and that they are all looking for exciting places to explore and visit. She shares her passion for the biodiversity in her backyard by inviting her guests and friends at the Batik Boutique Hotel (she founded it in 2010) on special interest expeditions and day-trips off the beaten track..
